San Diego
A San Diego father was tearfully reunited with his 10-month-old son Sunday less than two hours after a thief stole his car with the baby asleep in the back seat, police said.
Victor Gomez left his son in the car and the keys in the ignition while he went to lay flowers on a grave at Mt. Hope Cemetery about 1 p.m., police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
While he was gone, a man jumped into the car, drove across the cemetery and headed south on 45th Street with Victor Anthony Gomez asleep in the back seat, Robinson said.
Gomez went to a nearby house to call police, who alerted the California Highway Patrol and border authorities in case the thief was headed for Mexico.
