Titans’ Jones Reaches Pac-10 Wrestling Final
Heavyweight David Jones of Cal State Fullerton reached the final of the Pacific 10 wrestling championships with a 5-2 victory over Tom Osendorf of Cal State Bakersfield Sunday at Arizona State.
Jones, who is ranked fifth in the nation, will face third-ranked Pat McDade of Boise State today in the final of the heavyweight division. They have met twice this season in the Las Vegas tournament, with McDade winning both times.
Jones is 31-3 on the season.
Fullerton had three other wrestlers advance to today’s competition, which will decide first through sixth place in each division.
In the 118-pound division, the Titans’ Erin Millsap lost to Van Vidlak of Oregon, 18-5, in the semifinals. Millsap came back to defeat Anthony Tamez of Fresno State, 12-10, to qualify for the third-place match.
At 134, Cody Bryant lost to Glenn Jarrett of Oregon, 3-2, in the semifinals. Bryant then defeated Robert Tabarez of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 9-2, to qualify for the third-place match. At 150, Scott Schumm lost to Thom Ortiz of Arizona State, 15-6, in the semifinals. Schumm then defeated Bill Grundler of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 6-0, to qualify for the third-place match.
