Local News in Brief : Rules Prevent Vote on Limiting Building
State Fair Political Practices Commission regulations prevented the Whittier Planning Commission from voting Monday on a controversial proposal to limit apartment construction in an earthquake-torn area of the city.
Four of the five commissioners own property or businesses within 2,500 feet of the area under consideration, constituting a conflict of interest under the regulations.

In Tuesday’s editions, a Whittier planning commissioner was misidentified. His correct name is Larry Haendiges.
“I think it’s a sad situation when we have to live in fear of our government,” said Commissioner Mary Haendiges.
The proposal will be forwarded to the City Council.
