Local News in Brief : Truck Found, Linked to Officer Shooting
A pickup truck found abandoned on a Beverly Hills street was apparently the vehicle from which the gunshots were fired that wounded a Los Angeles rookie police officer last week, investigators said Monday.
The yellow 1982 Suburu pickup with a white camper shell was found abandoned about 8:30 p.m. Sunday on the 800 block of North Sierra Drive, in a residential area north of Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Hills Police Lt. Frank Sarver said.
Investigators used high-tech laser devices Monday to search for fingerprints and other clues on the truck, from which a passenger opened fire late Thursday night through an open tailgate with an AK-47, Los Angeles Police Lt. Chuck Massey said.
Officer Carlton Brown, 31, suffered minor wounds from flying glass when the gunfire shattered the windshield of his car after he attempted to pull the truck over for running a stop sign.
Massey would not say whether any leads have developed in the search for the driver and gunman.
