Local News in Brief : Placentia : Teacher Is Selected for Science Program
Shirley Lane, a teacher in the Placentia Unified School District, has been selected to participate in Project Catalyst, a national earth and space science program at Cal State Fullerton funded by a $558,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, district officials announced this week. Private groups and government agencies are providing an additional $460,000, making this the largest science teacher educational grant awarded in the United States this year.
Lane is one of 51 teachers chosen to participate in the program, which will include workshops over the next 2 years with acclaimed scientists in geology, physical oceanography, meteorology and space science.
