Local News in Brief : Motorcyclist Dies After Hitting Car Broadside
A25-year-old Van Nuys motorcyclist died early Sunday after he sped through a red light and struck a car, police said.
The victim was driving on Burbank Boulevard in Encino about 2:15 a.m., ran a red light at Louise Avenue and crashed into the side of a car that was in the intersection, Los Angeles Police Officer Jack Hosford said. The man was thrown 66 feet, he said.
The motorcyclist was taken to Rancho Encino Hospital with major head and chest injuries, where he was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m., a hospital spokeswoman said. The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. He was not wearing a helmet, Hosford said.
The driver of the car, Michael Weston, 26, of Sherman Oaks, was treated for cuts and bruises and released. Weston has not been cited, Hosford said.
