Christian Ole Furuseth of Norway skied to his first World Cup victory, beating Italian star Alberto Tomba by 1.4 seconds in a men’s slalom at Furano, France.
Furuseth put together runs of 56.02 and 54.51 seconds for a total of 1 minute 50.53 seconds.
Tomba had a 1:51.92 total, with Jonas Nilsson of Sweden third in 1:51.93. Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg, this season’s World Cup overall champion, was fourth in 1:51.95, and American Felix McGrath was fifth in 1:52.11.
