Whittier Christian, Dominguez Gain in Southern Regional
Dominguez and Whittier Christian high schools advanced in the Southern Regional of the state basketball tournament Tuesday night.
Xavier Edison scored 19 points as Dominguez, the CIF Southern Section 4-A champion, defeated Portervile Monache, 78-37. The Dons will play at Torrey Pines tonight.
Whittier Christian, the 2-AA champion, beat Coronado, 69-58. Center Scott Ferguson scored 18 points for the Heralds, who will play tonight at Washington Union in Fresno.
In other games involving Long Beach/Southeast area teams, 5-AA champion Millikan was defeated by Fremont, 66-60, and Artesia, the 4-A runner-up, lost to Torrey Pines, 62-51, despite 23 points by Ed O’Bannon.
