Local News in Brief : Robbers Beat Women, Take Jewelry in Simi
Three women were beaten, bound and gagged and three children were frightened by robbers who ransacked a Simi Valley home Wednesday morning before leaving with jewelry, police said.
Simi Valley Police Sgt. Neal Rein said three young men armed with knives and possibly a handgun entered the home in the 5700 block of Katherine Road about 7 a.m. through a side door.
The men put the children in another room and bound and gagged the women. They then beat and kicked the women, two of whom are in their 70s and one in her 30s, Rein said.
Rein said the younger woman was taken to Simi Valley Adventist Hospital suffering from serious injuries to her head, face and body. A hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday night that she was in stable condition. The older women were treated at the hospital and released.
Police did not release the identities of the women or children.
Rein said he did not know how long the robbers were in the house or who called police about 8:30 a.m. to report the incident. It was also unknown how much jewelry was taken, he said.
