USC, UCLA Students Among Winners of Frank O’Connor TV Awards

Students from USC and UCLA will be among the winners honored Sunday at the 10th annual Frank O’Connor Memorial College Television Awards, presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

First-place winners in the entertainment division are Lissa Leff of USC for the drama “Summer Lessons,” Pat Verducci of UCLA for the music video “Promised Land,” and Beverlyn Fray of USC for the drama “The Long Walk Home.”

First-place winners in the information division are Eric Metzgar of UCLA for “Lamortrek: Heritage of an Island,” Diana Gerba of Stanford for “Elephants and Cherry Pie,” and Alexandra Schwartz and Alexader Cameron of New York University for “Housing in Brooklyn: Two Views.”

Each of the winners will receive $2,000 at a dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The awards, selected from among 366 entries this year, honor TV work that was produced for college-course credit.

Among the second-place winners, who receive $1,000 each, is Tamara Lynn Iwerks of Cal State Northridge, for “The Greenhouse Effect: A New Forecast for Los Angeles.”
