Olympic and world indoor hurdles champion Roger Kingdom was defeated by Welshman Colin Jackson in the 60-meter hurdles at Glasgow, Scotland, two days after tying the world record.
Kingdom, looking to improve on his mark of 7.36 seconds set in Athens, instead finished second behind Jackson in the Great Britain-USA-USSR indoor international. Jackson’s time was 7.44.
Meanwhile, the U.S. 1,600-meter relay team of Clarence Daniel, Chip Jenkins, Ken Lowery and Mark Rowe set a world indoor record in the event at Glasgow with a time of 3:05.21, breaking the record of 3:05.9 set by the Soviet Union.
