Local News in Brief : Stolen School Bus Used in Holdups; 3 Arrested
San Fernando police said three men suspected of using a stolen Los Angeles Unified School District bus as a getaway vehicle while committing robberies in Pacoima and San Fernando were arrested Tuesday in East Los Angeles.
A Pacoima produce vendor was robbed of about $130 at gunpoint at 5:30 p.m. Monday when he stepped onto the bus, thinking the three male occupants wanted to buy oranges, police said. Clissiro Pacheco, 27, was released about three blocks from the Van Nuys Boulevard and De Haven Avenue location from where he was abducted, police said.
Two hours later, in the 900 block of Maclay Avenue in San Fernando, a school bus pulled up behind Luis Garcia, who was sitting in his car. Police said an armed man left the bus, robbed Garcia and took his car. The school bus drove away behind the stolen car, police said.
Neither victim was hurt.
Identities of the men arrested were not released Tuesday night.
