Furor Over Bible Scholars on Second Coming of Christ

I can’t understand the furor over the scholars’ pronouncement. Jesus’ mission, and he said so again and again, was to preach the kingdom. However accomplished, whether through comparative parables, straight talk or assignment of disciples, the message was clear. The kingdom is God’s, and the message was all about being in it. This is the good news, the Gospel.

Jesus did disclose that he will come again. He left no doubt about that. But he never once indicated that he would return to earth and establish a kingdom. The kingdom is now, and I imagine there’ll be a lot of disappointed folks when Jesus comes and says again, “The kingdom is in the midst of you.”
