‘Satanic Symbols’

Your photo caption saying that “satanic symbols are painted under the Costa Mesa Freeway in Orange” (Orange County section, March 10) sensationalizes the nonexistent and illustrates your ignorance of common symbols. The symbol(s), a “peace sign” painted over by the overused pink symbol for “anarchy,” prove only the lack of artistic ability and repertoire of the spray-can vandals. Neither has the slightest relation to “satanism,” which seems to exist only in the minds of reporters desperate for a story.
