Nikken Sekkei Ltd., one of Japan’s largest architecture/engineering consulting firms with expertise in seismic engineering and earthquake research, has opened its first U.S. subsidiary in Los Angeles.
The subsidiary, Nikken America Inc., has opened offices at 333 S. Hope St., Suite 2650.
Its goal is “to develop a Pacific Rim architectural culture with influences from both countries’ traditions.” Katsumi Yano, president of Nikken America, said, “We believe there will be growing demand for buildings that combine the cultures and technologies of our two countries.”
Hayahiko Takase and Shinjiro Wachi will lead the Los Angeles office as senior vice presidents.
The 89-year-old Nikken Sekkei has been providing access to the Japanese market for U.S. design firms, including Chaix & Johnson of Los Angeles, which is designing the interiors of a 400-room hotel and convention center in Yokahama and has designed the interiors of several major department stores in Japan.
