Local News in Brief : La Palma : Witnesses Tip Police to Bank Robbery Suspect
A bank robbery suspect was arrested at his Bellflower home Tuesday less than an hour after a holdup at Capitol National Bank in La Palma, police said.
Witnesses gave police a description of the getaway vehicle and of the suspect in the 1:03 p.m. robbery at the bank, in the 4800 block of La Palma Avenue, La Palma Police Officer Dominick Castro said.
La Palma detectives, assisted by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, arrested Harold E. Smith without incident at 1:46 p.m. as he was leaving his home in Bellflower, Castro said.
Smith was booked on suspicion of felony armed robbery and was being held Tuesday night in County Jail in Santa Ana, Castro said.
An undisclosed amount of cash and a weapon were recovered, he added.
