Southern Section Baseball : Simi Valley Continues to Win in Convincing Fashion, 20-1
A day after shutting out the host school in the first round of the Serra tournament, Simi Valley pounded Sunnyvale Fremont, 20-1, in a second-round game Tuesday.
Although the Pioneers (10-1) failed to record their second consecutive shutout when Fremont scored in the sixth inning, they did post their sixth win in a row.
Andy Hodgins was two for two with a grand slam, six runs batted in and three runs scored. The grand slam, his second home run in as many games, capped a five-run fourth inning. Hodgins was three for four with a home run and four RBIs on Monday when Simi Valley defeated Serra, 9-0.
Terry Hill was two for four with an RBI and scored a run, Greg Santos was two for three with an RBI and scored two runs, Kenny Hood was two for four with an RBI and scored two runs, and John Rodriguez was two for four and scored two runs.

Newbury Park 15, Ocean View 5--Ron Spaeth hit a two-run triple, Geoff Black added a run-scoring double and Dan Madsen had two hits and two RBIs as Newbury Park (9-1-3) won the consolation title of the Babe Herman tournament.
Rio Mesa 10, Redondo 0--Dmitri Young hit two doubles and a single and David Frazier went three for four and had three stolen bases in the third-place game of the Babe Herman tournament.
Henry Wilson (3-0) recorded his first shutout while striking out seven.
Nogales 20, Agoura 6--Nogales destroyed Agoura’s hopes of advancing to the championship game of the Thousand Oaks tournament by scoring 18 runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Designated-hitter Armando Plascensia had two home runs and four RBIs in the fifth inning alone.
Agoura’s Zac Miller, who also hit a home run Monday, crashed a three-run homer in the first and a two-run blast in the fourth.
Westlake 14, Channel Islands 0--Mike Eby (3-2) threw a three-hitter and struck out three in the consolation semifinal game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.
Westlake (5-5) scored the only runs Eby needed in the first inning when Steve Susko doubled home two runs and Chuck Foster followed with a triple.
Amador 4, Canyon 3--Sean Nichols struck out five, but Canyon lost in the Thousand Oaks tournament.
Royal 8, Las Vegas 7--Bill Egan’s run-scoring single in the seventh gave Royal a second-round victory at the Eldorado Classic in Las Vegas.
Egan went two for two with three RBIs. Sean Mitchell had three hits and Richie Naranjo added two hits and two RBIs.
Alemany 14, St. Francis 2--Jon Beauchemin hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs to give him 19 for the season and the visiting Indians collected 18 hits in the Del Rey League game. John Lite had four hits and two RBIs for Alemany.
St. Genevieve 15, Cathedral 1--Tom Nickels had two hits and two RBIs and three Valiant pitchers combined to throw a two-hitter in the nonleague game.
Harvard 9, Pater Noster 6--Mike Wolf had two doubles and Marty Holly had three hits for Harvard in the nonleague game.
