IN BRIFE : Giants’ Taylor Arrested, Released
NEWARK, N.J. — Troubled All-Pro linebacker Lawrence Taylor, whose drug problem cost him a four-week suspension last season, was briefly arrested today after police found him sleeping behind the wheel of his Jeep on a New Jersey highway, police said.
State police Sgt. Robert Kenyon confirmed that the man arrested at 3:22 a.m. was the New York Giants linebacker. “We know it was L.T.,” said Kenyon, noting that police identified him through a driver’s license.
Police took Taylor to the state police barracks in Bloomfield, where he failed a breath test, Kenyon said. He was given a summons for driving while intoxicated and then released on his own recognizance.
Taylor was suspended by the league Aug. 29, less than a week before last season’s opener against the Washington Redskins when his urine sample tested positive for an illegal substance. That substance was never disclosed.
