Cimarron (TNT Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.): In director Wesley Ruggles and adapter Howard Estabrook’s stirring, epic-scale 1931 version of Edna Ferber’s novel on the opening of the Oklahoma Territory, the film’s hero Richard Dix had not yet adapted his acting technique to talkies but Irene Dunne, in only her second film, is remarkable, creating a very proper, aristocratic Victorian who in her warmth and strength outgrows the bigotry and puritanism of her generation. Trouble in Paradise (Z Friday at 9 a.m., again at 4:30 p.m.): The Lubitsch touch personified: Elegant thieves Miriam Hopkins and Herbert Marshall attempt to fleece rich Kay Francis--but Marshall finds himself falling for Francis. (1:30)
