K mart Settles Lawsuit: K mart Corp. agreed to pay $450,457 in civil penalties to settle a consumer protection lawsuit over allegations that it routinely overcharged customers for advertised “sale” items. The stipulated judgment, approved in Los Angeles Superior Court, also includes a five-year injunction prohibiting the corporation from failing to properly charge its customers the advertised price for items on sale. Despite agreeing to the settlement, K mart did not admit any liability or wrongdoing. The lawsuit was filed by the district attorney’s offices in Los Angeles, Kern and Kings counties.
