National Geographic is dispatching a film crew to Alaska today to document the Exxon Valdez oil spill disaster, and the footage will appear in an upcoming segment of Geographic’s “Explorer” series. Originally planned as a film on Alaska’s wildlife, the segment has been changed to concentrate on marine life fighting for survival in the aftermath of what is being called the worst oil spill in U.S. history. Interviews with fishermen, environmentalists and others involved in the cleanup operation will be included.
