Publisher to Put Ads in Books: Whittle...
Publisher to Put Ads in Books: Whittle Communications LP has signed David Halberstam, John Kenneth Galbraith and seven other well-known authors to write a series of compact nonfiction books that will contain advertising. The project may face resistance from publishers or readers who might view advertising in books as being overly commercial. Whittle, which is based in Knoxville, Tenn., and is 50%-owned by Time Inc., said it plans to publish the first books in what it calls “The Larger Agenda” series aimed at corporate and civic leaders later this year. Other series aimed at different audiences are expected to follow.
