Understanding History
Helena Trevor’s May 20 letter about “War and Remembrance” indicated that one reason more people didn’t watch the miniseries is that they are fed up with the subject and have become immune to the horrors portrayed. This poor woman apparently doesn’t comprehend history.
I’ve seen Auschwitz, now a museum where one can find the many photos of Jews and Christians burned in the ovens. Trevor obviously finds the facts tiresome. Not so my children, who learned more from this epic than anything they had read about World War II.
I wish Dan Curtis’ film was mandatory in all schools. I doubt that students would share Trevor’s sense of boredom.
