SAN DIEGO ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS
A 14-year-old pianist, a 19-year-old violinist and a 28-year-old mezzo-soprano are among the five winners who will play in Sunday’s annual La Jolla Civic University Orchestra Young Artist Competition concert. The 4 p.m. program will include violinist Jennifer P. Hanlin in Mozart’s Concerto No. 5 in A Major, pianist Hiroko Kunitake playing Mozart’s Concerto No. 23 in A Major and Martin B. Glicklich in Nielsen’s Flute Concerto. Patricia McAfee will sing two opera arias, “O don fatale” from Verde’s “Don Carlo” and “Air des lettres” from Massenet’s “Werther.” Fu Min Huang will close the program playing David’s Trombone Concerto. The concert at UC San Diego’s Mandeville Auditorium will open with Bernstein’s Overture to Candide.
