A reward of $2,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Jose Antonio Mendoza, 32, South Gate police said. The reward is being offered by Mendoza’s mother, Irene Molina of El Paso.

Police Sgt. Scott Attebery said Mendoza’s decomposed body was found in late October by a California Transportation Department worker at an on-ramp of the Golden State Freeway in Burbank. Mendoza had been stabbed several times. His car, which had been burned, was found in early October in Los Angeles.

Mendoza was last seen Oct. 7 when he left his South Gate home. Mendoza told his wife, Leticia, that he was going shopping at the South Gate Plaza, Attebery said.
