Barry McGuigan, former featherweight boxing champion, retired after super-featherweight Jim McDonnell knocked him out in the fourth round at Manchester, England. Referee Micky Vann stopped the former champion’s comeback attempt at 1:43 of the fourth round as blood streamed into McGuigan’s eyes.

McGuigan, who lost the World Boxing Assn. featherweight championship to American Steve Cruz in 1986, has a career record of 32-3, with 28 knockouts.
