Prep Baseball : Palisades to Face Kennedy in Final
Eight days ago, Palisades High School’s baseball season appeared to be over because of the Los Angeles teachers’ strike and the premature cancellation of the City 4-A division playoffs.
However, the Dolphins got a reprieve when the strike was settled last week. The 4-A coaches returned to participate in a condensed playoff format.
Now, Palisades (25-4) finds itself in the City 4-A final against Granada Hills Kennedy tonight at 7:30 at Dodger Stadium, after defeating Chatsworth, 8-7, at Cal State Northridge Wednesday.
With Chatsworth (21-7) holding an 8-7 lead in the seventh, the Dolphins rallied when Mario Cobian drove in Brett Garcia from second with the tying run. Barry Levine, who earlier hit his eighth home run of the season, had a ground-rule double to score Levine for the victory.
Kennedy 8, Sylmar 7--Trailing, 7-1, and facing unbeaten Tom Ball, Kennedy’s chances of advancing seemed bleak.
But Kennedy (21-7), which has a four-game winning streak, rallied. After scoring three runs in the fifth, Kennedy, with help from Garret Anderson’s three-run home run, scored four runs in the sixth.
Bell (30-5) will play Franklin (17-4) today at 4 p.m. in the City 3-A final at Dodger Stadium. Bell has been in the final the last two seasons, winning in 1987 and losing in 1988. Franklin has never played for a City championship.
