A Drug Enforcement Administration agent shot Thursday night at Golden Hill Park was released from Mercy Hospital Friday morning.
Tony Campbell, a member of the surveillance team in a drug bust that ended in gunfire, allegedly was shot by Luciano Pulido Varela, said Jim Hicks, a DEA special agent.
When the undercover agent gave the arrest signal, Pulido pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and shot Campbell in the chest from 15 to 20 feet away, Hicks said.
Because Campbell was wearing a bulletproof vest, he only suffered a bruise, but Pulido was chased by other agents and shot in the neck and leg, Hicks said. Pulido, believed to be 36, was listed in critical but stable condition Friday night at Mercy Hospital.
Two other men involved in the bust, Miguel Angel Flores-Palbar, 21, and Jesus Alberto Gutierrez-Corrales, 29, both of Culiacan, Mexico, were arraigned Friday on charges of conspiracy to sell narcotics and were being held in the Metropolitan Correctional Center downtown.
