Roman to Face His Top Challenger in Tonight’s WBC Title Fight at Forum
Gilberto Roman of Mexico, the World Boxing Council’s super-flyweight champion, will meet No. 1 WBC contender Juan Carazo of Puerto Rico in a scheduled 12-round fight tonight at the Forum.
Roman, 27, is 51-4-1 with 33 knockouts and will be defending his championship for the 11th time during his two-time reign. Roman first won the title in 1986, but lost it in 1987 before regaining it in 1988.
Carazo, 24, is 23-1 with 19 knockouts.
On the undercard, the Forum’s super-featherweight tournament continues with a 10-round bout between Edgar Castro and Ben Lopez.
Kelcie Banks, the U.S. Olympic team featherweight who was knocked out in his first bout at Seoul last summer, meets Mexican Chango Moreno. Banks, once the world amateur featherweight champion, is 1-0 as a pro lightweight.
Heavyweight Len Pettigrew meets Kevin Ford also in a preliminary bout.
