Two Tied After Second Round of Golf Tournament

Craig Anderson, representing Valley Vista Golf Club, and Robert Dickinson of Balboa Park are tied for first at 142 after Sunday’s second round of the 57th San Diego Men’s Amateur Golf Championship at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course.

Pat Duncan (Rancho Santa Fe), Steve Haase (San Diego Country Club) and Clark Renner (Torrey Pines) are tied at 144 after 36 holes of the 72-hole tournament that continues next Saturday.

Ken Earle (Rancho Bernardo Inn) and Jack Spradlin Jr. (San Diego Country Club) are three strokes back at 145.

SURFING

San Clemente’s Vince de la Pena won the Professional Surfing Assn. of America’s $35,000 Oceanside Open at Harbor Beach.

De la Pena, 18, won $6,200. Todd Chesser, a two-time 1989 tour finalist, finished second and Richie Rudolph from Cocoa Beach, Fla., took third.

Cardiff’s Colin Smith finished fifth and received $1,000, while Carlsbad’s Sean Morrison wound up in a four-way tie for ninth and won $550.

SAILING

Cadenia, owned and skippered by Carl Eichenlaub, won the Lipton Cup Race 3 at the San Diego Yacht Club in 3 hours 8 minutes 30 seconds over the 17.5-mile course.

Quintessence, owned by Donald Hughes, finished second in 3:13:11 and Persephone, owned by John Woodhill, was third in 3:14:48.
