Man, 42, Dies in Crash Near Griffith Park
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a Panorama City man who was killed when his car went off a freeway transition road near Griffith Park and down an embankment into a tree, authorities said Monday.
Investigators believe that the 42-year-old victim, whose name was withheld until relatives could be notified, went off the road from the westbound Ventura Freeway to the northbound Golden State Freeway late Sunday. The wreckage was not spotted by a passing motorist until about 8:30 a.m. Monday.
The interchange where the accident occurred is near Glendale at the northern edge of the park. Rescuers found the victim pinned behind the steering wheel of the wrecked car.
CHP investigators had not determined what caused the man’s car to leave the road.
