LOCAL : Woodland Hills Gunman Kills Self
California Highway Patrol officers on patrol early today witnessed a man wrestle another man to the ground and shoot him twice in the head during a fight in the parking lot of a Woodland Hills high school.
One of the CHP officers wounded the gunman, but he escaped. Shortly after the 2:50 a.m. shooting, the unidentified man was trailed from Taft High School to a nearby office building, where he shot himself to death in a restroom as Los Angeles police were preparing to move in.
The man who was wounded in the parking lot was identified as Anthony Rotella, 21, of Woodland Hills, a community services officer for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Rotella, a civilian employee who worked at the Santa Clarita Valley station, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was in critical condition after surgery.
The reasons for the dispute leading to the shooting were not known.
