San Diego area players Miah Bradbury, Frank Carey and Glen Reyes were selected Monday on the first day of baseball’s amateur draft.

Reyes, a track and football standout at Orange Glen High School, had not played baseball since his freshman year but was picked by the Houston Astros in the early rounds. Reyes, drafted as an infielder, is a three-time section sprint champion, winning the 100-meter dash two consecutive years and the 200-meter dash this year. In football, he caught 24 passes, averaging 18.2 yards.

Carey, a second baseman who will graduate from Stanford this month, was selected by the San Francisco Giants. Carey was a four-year starter helping the Cardinal win College World Series championships in 1987 and 1988. At Granite Hills High, he set the section career stolen base mark with 95.
