Ferry Capsizes in Colombia; 13 Drown
BOGOTA, Colombia — Thirteen people drowned and at least 35 more were missing after a ferry packed with party-goers capsized on the Condoto River in southwestern Colombia, a state governor said Tuesday.
The passengers had left a beauty pageant in the town of Andagolla, 140 miles west of the capital, and were returning home when the vessel sank early Monday, civil defense officials said.
The exact number of people missing and feared drowned, estimated at 35, may increase, as there was no record of exactly how many people were aboard the ferry, Choco state Gov. Ruben Angulo said.
