Higher Waste Pickup Fees OKd
The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council on Tuesday approved an increase in refuse collection rates effective July 1.
Three areas of the city are served by Waste Management of California, which has had a franchise agreement with the city since July, 1988. A fourth area of the city is served by Ivy Rubbish Disposal, which has had a franchise agreement since April 1.
Waste Management’s rates will increase from $14.40 and $13.95 to $15.40 per month. Ivy, which offers varying levels of service, will increase rates from $29.26 to $31.30 per month for twice-weekly back-yard pickup. Ivy’s twice-weekly curb-side service will increase from $15.55 to $16.52, and once-weekly back-yard service will increase from $18.43 to $19.63.
The franchise agreements allow contractors a single rate increase annually.
Public Information Officer Katie Pitcher told the council that the increases were requested because of increased landfill rates.
