Racing at Hollywood Park : Imaginary Lady Easy Winner in Railbird Stakes
Imaginary Lady, returning from a successful eastern campaign, raced to a 4 1/2-length victory in the $81,550 Railbird Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Scoring her sixth win in nine career starts, Imaginary Lady moved from third place in the seven-furlong race to take the lead on the turn and quickly drew out.
Kiwi came from fifth place in the field of seven to finish second, while the pace-setting Stormy But Valid was third.
Imaginary Lady, winner of the Santa Anita Oaks in March, went east and won the Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn Park and then the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico, becoming one of the nation’s top fillies.
Imaginary Lady, ridden by Gary Stevens, was timed in 1:21 2/5. As the heavy favorite, she paid $3.40, $3 and $2.40.
In the co-featured $79,950 Los Angeles Handicap, Sam Who scored his fourth consecutive win and first in a stake race. Kept in third place until the stretch, Sam Who responded to the urging of jockey Laffit Pincay for a one-length victory.
Sam Who was timed in 1:09 2/5 after having set a track record of 1:08 for six furlongs in his last start. He paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.10.
Prospectors Gamble was second and Mi Preferido third.
