Laurent Fignon of France took the Tour of Italy bicycle race by finishing fifth in the final stage from Prato to Florence.
Fignon, 28, completed the 22 legs, marred by cold and snow in mountainous stages, 1:15 ahead of Flavio Giupponi of Italy and 2:46 ahead of defending champion Andrew Hampsten.
