Campeau Reports a Loss: Toronto-based Campeau Corp. reported a loss of $67 million (U.S.) for the first quarter ended March 31, compared to a profit of $173 million a year earlier. It blamed the loss on an increase in financing and other costs related to its acquisition of Federated Department Stores last year. Separately, Cincinnati-based Federated posted a $90.3-million loss, compared to a loss of $128.9 million in the same period last year, when it was trying to fight the Campeau takeover. A second U.S. unit, Allied Stores Corp., reported a $51.4-million loss in the quarter.
