Anaheim : Oil Leaks at Bus Yard Prompt Investigation
Oil leaks at a bus yard in Anaheim are forcing the Orange County Transit District to explore the extent of soil and ground-water contamination, according to district officials.
The problem involves the failure of a 2,000-gallon waste-oil tank and piping to pass a “tightness” test last fall, according to a district report released this week. Excavations at the bus yard have shown that the piping next to the tank is responsible for the leaks, although there is no estimate yet of how much waste oil has seeped into the soil.
Orange County Transit District board members are scheduled to vote Monday on a plan to hire International Technology Corp. to analyze the extent of the contamination problem.
The investigation of the site is expected to cost about $46,600.
The county’s environmental health officers formally ordered further investigation of the problem in a May 25 letter to OCTD officials, after the transit district notified the county of the leaks.
