A new no-smoking policy in the lobbies at the Music Center has drawn no complaints so far, Sandra Kimberling, president of the Music Center Operating Co., said Thursday. The new policy at the Ahmanson Theatre and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion coincided with the openings of “Phantom of the Opera” and “Orpheus in the Underworld” at the two theaters. “We just decided to bite the bullet and do it,” Kimberling said. “We had gotten a lot of complaints from patrons and it just seemed like a good time to implement it. It’s summer, and the weather is nice enough so that patrons can go outside to smoke.” Previously, the Ahmanson had been divided into smoking and non-smoking sections, and the Pavilion allowed smoking in certain areas. The Music Center’s other theater, the Mark Taper Forum, has had a no smoking policy since 1987.
