Motor Home Hits 12 Vehicles After Driver Has Heart Attack
The driver of a motor home suffered a fatal heart attack on the eastbound Ventura Freeway about 6 p.m. Friday, and the 35-foot vehicle careened into a dozen other vehicles, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver, whose identity was withheld pending a coroner’s report, died about one hour later at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Two other motorists were taken to St. Joseph, where a hospital spokeswoman said they were treated for minor injuries.
Seven tow trucks were needed to clear the wreckage from the freeway near Hollywood Way in Burbank.
CHP Officer Bob Weaver said the trucks cleared disabled vehicles from the highway’s three fast lanes to keep some traffic moving. The collision at the peak of rush hour caused traffic to back up until the road was completely cleared at 7:50 p.m.
