Schwan to Lead South Stars in Ventura County Game
Kurt Schwan, a 6-foot-9 center at Westlake High last season who will attend Weber State in the fall, will lead the South team in the Ventura County All-Star basketball game at 8:15 tonight at Ventura High. The county girls’ all-star game will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
The boys’ South team will be coached by John Harbour of Marmonte League co-champion Camarillo High.
In addition to Schwan and forward Mike Waggoner of Westlake, the team is composed of forwards Frank Dews and Jason Hunt and guard Jeff Castellanos of Camarillo, guards Jeff Marciano and Dennis Cook of Simi Valley, forward John Bushart and guard Jeff Peterson of Thousand Oaks and guard J. P. Ouellette of Royal.
The North will be coached by Steve Wolf of Channel League champion Rio Mesa and will be led by Bubba Burrage, John McGill and Art Santana of state Division IV champion Santa Clara.
Also playing for the North will be guard Lester Smith and forward Jeff Garner of Rio Mesa, forward Adan Valencia and guard Troy Erickson of Buena, guard Jerry Santiago of Channel Islands, guard Sal Ledesma of Oxnard and forward Nate Hantgin of Ventura.
Jack Willard of Camarillo will coach the girls’ South team and Tom McConville of Santa Clara will coach the North.
Included on the South will be Amy Chandler of Thousand Oaks, Keira Irwin and Shannon Solway of Simi Valley, Angie Long of Camarillo, Marlo Cormier of Newbury Park, Amy Alarian of La Reina, Carole Ann Laich of Royal and Beth Perea of Fillmore.
Willard said that Chandler, Irwin, Solway, Long and Cormier will start.
