Violence claimed the lives of at least five people in Los Angeles County over the weekend.

Three of the deaths came in Pomona: an elderly brother and sister on Sunday and a teen-age boy interrupting an argument at a party early Saturday.

An 89-year-old man and his 81-year-old sister were found bludgeoned to death about 10 a.m. Sunday, Pomona Police Lt. Ernie Allsup said. He had no further details to release.

Jose Huizar, 17, was shot once in the chest at 12:13 a.m. Saturday, Allsup said. As a party was ending, Huizar tried to stop a dispute between a 16-year-old boy and a girl there. The 16-year-old allegedly shot Huizar and fled.

The suspect was arrested later at his sister’s home. He is being held on suspicion of murder at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall, Allsup said.

In South-Central Los Angeles, Raul Ayala, 25, a former gang member, was shot to death about 2 a.m. Saturday in an alley behind a home in the 1400 block of East 20th Street, police said. In Hollywood, 20-year-old Jose Varas was shot and killed Friday night in a dispute with some suspected gang members, police said.

Others wounded in weekend violence included a Newhall man, Ismael Santana, 19, who was shot shortly before midnight Sunday, and hospitalized in critical condition, and an unidentified man stabbed and hospitalized in the Harbor area of Los Angeles.
