Southern Pacific Links With Chicago: Southern Pacific Transportation Co. has achieved its century-old goal of a direct link to Chicago. The company has acquired 532 miles of track from Soo Line Corp. of Minneapolis for $86 million. The track starts at Kansas City and passes through Missouri, Iowa and northern Illinois. The deal is subject to the approval of the Interstate Commerce Commission.
