Open Mind, Winner of Seven Straight, Will Seek Belmont’s Filly Triple Today
NEW YORK — Open Mind will go for the New York filly triple today in Belmont’s Coaching Club American Oaks, a $350,000 stakes for 3-year-olds over 1 1/2 miles.
Open Mind has won seven consecutive races, all stakes.
She will face five other fillies, all of whom will carry 121 pounds. Open Mind will be ridden by Angel Cordero.
On Tuesday’s Belmont program, Cryptoclearance probably will be favored to win the 1 1/4-mile, $350,000 Grade I Suburban Handicap.
Winner of three Grade I stakes this year--the Donn, Widener and Hawthorne Gold Cup--Cryptoclearance will carry high weight of 123 pounds, including Jose Santos.
Cryptoclearance will run as an entry with Lustra, as he did in the Hawthorne a week ago Saturday when Lustra set the early pace and Cryptoclearance came from behind.
Cryptoclearance is a 5-year-old with career earnings of $2,629,317.
