McEnroe Quits Doubles
From Associated Press
WIMBLEDON, England — John McEnroe withdrew today from the men’s doubles at Wimbledon with a slight muscle tear in his left shoulder, but officials said he will be fit enough to play his singles semifinal on Friday.
The Assn. of Tennis Professionals, the players’ union, said McEnroe is undergoing treatment from ATP trainer Bill Norris.
The injury apparently occurred during McEnroe’s third-round doubles match Wednesday night, which followed a grueling three-hour, 52-minute singles quarterfinal against Mats Wilander.
