Gyde Helps Cypress Team Win Softball Title
Missy Gyde’s fifth-inning home run broke up a scoreless tie and Lisa Fernandez pitched a two-hitter to lead Gordon’s Panthers of Cypress to a 2-0 victory over Twin Creeks Diamonds and the championship of the 19-and-under Fast Pitch Hall of Fame Softball Invitational Sunday in Oklahoma City.
Gyde, of Kennedy High School, hit a homer to help Gordon’s Panthers to a successful defense of its title in the American Softball Assn.-sponsored event.
The Panthers added a run in the seventh against the Diamonds, from Sunnyvale, Calif. Deanna Mays, a sophomore at Nebraska from Kennedy High School, singled to open the inning and Tasha Hernandez walked. After a bunt by Misty Pinkerton of Western High School moved the runners along, pinch-runner Gina Wilkerson scored on a wild pitch.
