The Westminster City Council has awarded the Vietnamese Community of Orange County Inc. a grant of $30,000 to build its Asian Senior Acculturation Center.
The project is expected to begin this month and open in early 1990. It will be designed for a daily attendance of 70 to 80 senior citizens. The center will be at 1618 W. 1st St. in Santa Ana.
Total project costs are near $1 million, which includes $450,000 from the Senior Center Bond Act funds, $270,000 from two grants awarded by Santa Ana and more than $100,000 from fund-raising proceeds and donations from foundations, private corporations and individuals.
“This is one of our most cherished projects to help our disadvantaged seniors,” said Mai Cong, president of the board of directors of the Vietnamese community group.
