The State : 3 Flee During Melee at Jail
Riverside County sheriff’s officials said three inmates from a minimum-security housing unit escaped during Sunday night’s riot at a jail in Banning and remain at large. The prisoners--David A. Burger, David W. Bustillo and Brian R. O’Farrell--are believed to have escaped over a back fence during the height of the melee, which left 15 inmates and five guards injured and six buildings destroyed by fire. All three men were serving sentences for misdemeanors, officials said. Most inmates at the Banning Rehabilitation and Counseling Center remained confined to their barracks, although some were assisting with cleanup efforts.
