Ron Guidry, last active player from the New York Yankees’ 1977-78 World Series championship teams, announced his retirement at a news conference at Yankee Stadium.

Guidry retires with a 170-91 career record, fourth-best in Yankee history, and a 3.29 earned-run average. He won the Cy Young Award in 1978, when he was 25-3 with a 1.74 ERA. The three-time 20-game winner also had a 3-1 World Series record with a 1.69 ERA in four appearances.

Guidry did not pitch for the Yankees this year after undergoing elbow surgery at the end of spring training.
